| Fit of panels from Carlson Hull Design? I asked this in the Software forum and so far I've got a resounding hollow hall sound of echo'y silence so I thought I'd try you builders..... I'm on the verge of starting a kayak that will use the info from Carlson's Hull program. I'm wondering if any of you have built a boat from the offsets that this program spits out and how well the panels fit when cut to the lines. Or did you need to plan on some "fudge factors". My design is for a Greenland style using stitch and glue that has a shallow V amidships and transitions to a raked fine entry so the bottom panels will be undergoing a lot of twist. Basically a 90% twist. I'm wondering about any allowances for this. |

| If you want to try a boatbuilder's bonehead approach, here it is: scale down the offsets, cut the panels out of cardboard, sew them together and see how they fit. Stich and glue doesn't require good fits anyway, just close enough. You can always adjust the panels by loosening or tightening the wire ties.

Already done the carboard bit but the small size and thin material makes if hard to tell if the errors are just bad Scotch taping or the material itself. I guess I could try a 1/4 size model from corrugated cardboard.... |
