Fiberglass thickness?

HI,
I am thinking of building a 14-17ft speedboat(for sea use), But im unsure what thickness fiberglass i would need to use or/and how many layers.
im thinking of useing a cheap old boat and then taking a case then going from there.
Im not very educated on the subject of boat building yet, so any information is of value to me (I.E how to paint, what rezin to use, COST, tacking the mold...ect.)
Please could you help me and any information will be of greate use to me!

A Good way to Start Is Read some of the books out there, A great "Primer" Is David Gerr's "Nature Of Boats" it covers basic design considerations and Scantlings.
