Encapsulating

Thanks for the continued help! I have my wood in hand for building frames! Is it necessary to encapsulate the pieces? I would much rather epoxy the marine ply skin to the frame surface and after cure, paint the whole thing a few coats of good quality marine paint. Also, I'm hearing things about coating the bottom, when the hull is done, with one of those ultra tough liners they use in pickup truck beds. What say ye?
