copper-nickel foil: What went wrong with it? It seems that all the copper-nickel adhesive foil has disappeared from the market place. What happened? Foil seemed to have an advantage over powder. The epoxy used to set the powder was not abraided by the water fast enough to allow the copper-nickel to oxide as needed. The only thing I have read is that the foil could delaminate if the boat went to fast. For sailboats this would not be the case. Also one report said that there was a problem with erosion at the seams. Cuprogard was a retired from the market a few years ago. Avonclad and Mariner 706 seem to have disappeard also. Anybody know about this?

Recieved an email from one of the ex-makers of the foil system. Their new product will be copper-nickel powder sprinkled and rubbed onto wet epoxy. So the banning of copper (other than in paints) is perhaps not the reason.

just another way to beat the system,,if the copper is (locked)into the epoxie and cannot be releist into the enviornment ,,it is ok.,but will it work ,,?and yes ,the people who make these dicisions ,probably really dont know squat about it , a sales tactic no doubt,,but what good is copper or anything else that is confined in a barrier,,longliner

rubbed or projected onto not into. 15 years of protection against how many paint chips, dilutents, plastic roller applicaters, ... Thinking of the bigger picture, perhaps this is not so damaging on the environment?

| Copper Nickel foil...where to find it Actually it has not been discontinued, I just found a source which merely has a 4000 pound minimum order rule. Global Metals in Brooklyn, NY have the metal you speak of. I hope this link works... http://www.globalmetals.com/coppernickel-foil.html ...seeing as it is something many may well need.
