building fishing skiffs 16-20 ft

i am new to the site and really getting into fiberglassing since i have gotten myself into restorin a classic boston whaler. i am thinking about bulding a boat as a winter project. i wanna build a hand lay up epoxy vhull skiff, foam filled with density foam. i am worried about my know how structurally wise though. i have seen some videos of people putting some sort of super light dense foam stringers and ribs in hulls. is this an option? will it be sturdy if it is surrounded by foam or is wood wrapped in glass the only way to go. any info or opinion is greatly appreciated
