I doubt that the sludge is really chemically inert, but with the bacteria dead there will be no release of ammonia and sulfur based gases which cause the nasty smell. There will still be unmetabolized antibiotics, cortico-steroids, artificial sweeteners, fatty acids and ureum compounds in the waste, but that may be considered acceptable at present. The sewage treatment plants also are not really "green": they add serious amounts of silicone to keep the broth from foaming.

| Thanks CDK. I like Fanie's ideas about ozone. I have seen ozone generators that kill bacteria in the treatment of potable water. Another method of killing bacteria in waste water is Ultra Violet light. There are many possibilities for innovated people to consider. |

| LOL, be carefull of that UV ! You don't want the skin on your butt (apart from other places) to peel because you 'had to go' ![]() UV is also dangerous and you have to protect most materials from it. It makes it a bit unpractical to use. Seriously dangerous to eyes, even reflective UV you cannot see gives you arc eyes - ask me ! My own planned setup is going to be very simple - I plan to spend the absolute minimum time in there in any case - port-a-potty, storage portable tank and that's it. Not prepared to spend more on **** ![]() Not sure why some want the puffed seat and the upholstered arm rests. Does it improve the experience ![]()

| I'm thinking the same. Porta Poti and on a longer voyage you could always take a spare tank.... (Assuming discharging isn't an option) |
