Looks that you are into a serious project.
Good luck with your work - I believe its going to be a "collectors item" one day.
Please let us know what problems you have - could be helping others when
they are restoring old "Sportsmans".

Can I ask - did you buy this boat in that condition ?
How much did you pay ?

There is a Sportsman for sale up in Rhode Island - they are asking $16500 for it.
It is without power and a bad shape - what do you think about that price ?

I would love to have my own "Sportsman" but have not found any in original condition to the right price.

The boat was in poor condition. I found the boat in Hyannis, Ma 18 months ago. It had not been in the water for over 10 years. It was sitting on a trailer. The trailer was in tough shape. It had a 4.3 merc which only 150 hours of use. It sat out side by the alantic ocean and the elements destroyed it. The prevouis owner bought the boat with the intention of restoring it. Started dismantling hardware and then stopped. It is missing quite a bit of hardware. My dad had owned two of the sportsmans when I was growing up. I know the boat in side out. Prior to the owner I bought the boat from. The deck had been remove at the same time the motor was replaced. Hack job replacing deck. I immediatly took out motor and transom assembly. Stern and stringers completely rotted. Removed deck and found foam compartments soaked. Bottom of hull had 40 years of bottom paint. The hull was not in too bad of shape. The owner was asking $8000.
I told him he was not realistic at that price before I had even seen the actual boat. He went down to $6500 over phone. I drove down from NH to see it in Hyannis. I offered him $2000 cash. He dropped price to $4000. I got in my car and left. He called me after a week , met at the boat and struck a deal at $3000.00. I checked out the RI boat.
Needs stern and stringers replaced. Deck has to be removed. Not worth $16,500.

Stern it was dust and mold. As you can see the deck had to come out. The boat in RI stern is soacked. The right way to fix stern is to remove everything.
