gel coat instead of toolin gel ?

i lost some molds in the fire i have to rebuild---my fiberglass man says to use gel coat instead of tooling gel ? says gel coat would work fine.

I guess you could answer that! How many pulls do you want from the tooling? And the finish required on the part or do you paint?

If you like to rework the finish or paint no big deal, But if a first rate finish is wanted/desired by all means use the tooling gel coat.

Are You Spraying A Master Or Mold ? On A Master Ihve Used A Duratec Surface Primer W/ A Clear Additive That Will Make The Surface Primer Tac Free And Its Softer For Sanding. But Doesnt Wrinkle As Bad As Gel When You Pull Your Mold.but As Far As Amold Goes I Think You Need The Best Tooling Gel. Or Like War Whoop Says
You Will Have To Sand Every Part That Comes Out.
I Dont Think Tooling Gel Is Thatmuch Different In Price .if You Have A High Output Of Parts You Are Running Dont Use Anything Else.

tooling gelcoat is the way to go, tooling gel is iso and general purpose gel is ortho, for a cheap mould with just a couple of pulls ortho will do ,but with tooling iso its a high grade with very little filler added to it and will hold a high gloss and tuffer to scatch, if you buy iso gel and ask for spray gel clear tell them you dont want any color added you should get a high grade, by putting tooling gel on the label you can expect to pay much more for it, just add some pigment and your good to go

if you use plane old gelcoat make a color you will never sray in a part. Gets a little confusing.
