wanted: marine plywood

I am looking for 1/2", 1/4" and 3/8" marine ply for a boat I am starting soon. preferably cheap if I can get away with it. and hopefully within driving distance from Tulsa, Ok. I need 5 sheets of 1/4", 12 sheets of 1/2" and 5 sheets of 3/8". also looking for epoxy. thanks, snapper

Not within driving distance, but flat rate shipping for 12 or less sheets is pretty good, also have plenty of epoxy/glass/paint etc....

Carefull guys. MARINE plywood is all over the place when it comes to REAL quality. There is NO true quality grading system in the industry. Companies use words like- marine rated-- marine quality-- hell, I am marine quality and rated. You really need the recomandations and the suppliers that GOOD wood custom boat builders use. Most MARINE stamped plywood is imported and has outer skins of 1.0 to a maximum of 1.5 mils. IT is a rip off if you are going to use it as a structural ONLY outer skin. 3 layers, 2 of the 1.5 mils. and a center of what ever China could spare, @ 1/4" thick, could snap in a good hard wave. Carefull!!!! I am not joking.

thanks guys, I'll contact those suppliers and see what I can come up with. as far as the plywood rating goes, I plan on using Meranti, or Okume depending on what is available. good point though, you can never be too careful, especially when looking for good marine ply. thanks,

In the USA, the plywood industry tries to comply with a voluntary grading system (this is what happens when you elect a bunch of conservatives into office). As Cyclops has pointed out, there are no guaranties and quite a few misleading markings abound. The British BS 1088 or other Lloyds qualified panel will yield the best results, usually with a premium price.

Log onto www.woodfinder.com and have a look see for availability in your area. Stay away from Douglas fur if you want to finish it bright or are not 'glass coating it.

I plan on coating both sides with 'glass. the bad news is there aren't alot of suppliers in my area (Oklahoma) so I will probably have to order online to get what I need. The prices here are outrageous for good marine ply.

Here is the company I use. I dont know what they wcharge for shipping. But I do know there prices are fare and the plys I use have the Loydes of London stamp. (Now this means eather they do there plywood right or they have a Loydes of London stamp in the officel) They have high quality plywood
