Is it possible to get 200hp from a Merc 165.
Is there a a fuel injector kit?
What other ideas do you guys have?

Since the Mercruiser 165 utilizes the 429 Ford V8 Cylinder Head, you could substitute the CJ version, with larger valves and higher C.R. for probably a 15 - 20% uncrease. Add a 4 Barrel carb from the Merc 180/190 ( 4 bbl version) for well over 200HP.

Thanks Jango, but my Merc 165 is a Chevy in-line 6.
Not clear how the Ford Big-Block head would fit.

Jenerator,
The Mercruiser 165, was produced as a 3.7L, (224ci) 4 cyclinder, from the early 1970's into the 1990's (was known as a 470 in the 1970's)
Not familar with the chevy (Earlier?) version but similar hop-up parts should be available.

The options I'd look at here, in no particular order, are:
- Supercharging/turbocharging
- New head
- New exhaust and intake manifolds
- Better carb
- Convert to EFI
If your engine is old, you may find it cheaper to replace it with a rebuilt 4.3L. This engine is 180-200hp stock and there's lots of aftermarket parts for it. I can't offer any guarantees as to what's available for your motor, but from what I've seen it's often not cost effective to milk more ponies from a small 4 or 6 cylinder block.

Here are some links. Head work and a custom ground cam are my first choices accompanied of course by appropriate fuel and spark increases.
Engines are big air pumps. Push in more air and fuel, ignite properly and you have more power.
These guys raced inline 6's for winning records for years.

Thanks guys...

I am thinking about a full repower now...

I think it will be easier and less hassle for the power i want to make.

Plus the leg unit is a complete throw away.
