View Full Version : Plans for 'Egoist'

Anyone out there know of a source for plans of a 5.5m pocket cruiser called 'Egoist'. She was designed by Claude L'Honnen - but all attempts to contact him have failed. A web search always ends up on the same page which informs me that the relevant page has been withdrawn.

Ask and ye shall receive. Endtas also has it in case you ever want it again.

Steve - you are a genius... Many, many, many thanks. There's an Iowa-sized dram waiting for you next time you call by.... :) ;) :D

This has some more egoist info: http://membres.lycos.fr/egoist/common/ego1.htm

Any pics of a completed egoist?

Baldur - that was my next question. The link you quote is the one I originally used - but you probably discovered like me that Claude's photographic record suddenly peters out. I tried to e-mail him... but no result so far.. and the web link turns all 'huffy' (in French) and refuses to redirect. Bit of a mystery really. But she's such a simple, pretty little craft, that I'm sure someone out there has built her.
But follow up Steve's (lewisboats) link who correctly says that 'Endtas' has plans - or just down load the link he's added to the note above.
Once more Steve - big hug and kisses (masculine style of course). You're a man of the first water. ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

Certainly my pleasure. I too would like to see one completed, or at least 80%. I also have my eye on that sweet little Polish number. This might actually be the first boat I build that I haven't designed myself. Here is the site for it in english.

You're also a man of good taste, Steve...The little Polish number has taken my fancy too ;)

There is another one too...Russian I think. It has a triangular pram bow, real narrow. I had it a couple of days ago, but now I can't think of where it is/what it is called. Any clues?

Sorry Steve, after all you've done for me... I've got to let you down. Scratched the balding head...can't think...scoured the web...Not really anything definate...But for you, my friend, I'll keep searching... :(
Oh, by the way... Which version of CAD were the Egoist plans transcribed into. I'm a Mac man... and limited to the CADs - Neither RealCad; MacCad, nor Graphite seem to want to open the plans....Frustration....
But not to worry too much...I'm greatly struck by the little Polish number...
But as I say...search for the Russian design goes on...

Here is the program that works for me... at least it opens the drawings. I'm not much of a CADer so you're on your own as to playing with the drawings. According to the webpage I downloaded there are some drawings that are not included because he was going to do them as he built the thing.

What can I say Steve...Even unto half my kingdom...well one of my daughters anyway. You are a prince among men. It did the trick.
Meanwhile I've printed out the plans of the little Polish number...absolutely beautiful - certainly near the top of 'Must do' list. But am still searching for the 'Russian Job'....will be in touch. But again many thanks ;) ;)

Steve - Could it be the Kavalier 800 ? Russian design.
Tap in http://sailing.about.com/od/boatplans/
then track list down to Kavalier 800...Not as pretty as the Polish job...but each to his own I suppose.

Dots de one! When I was looking at it a few days ago I was 6-8 beers into trying to get sleepy and I misplaced the brain cell where the design name and address resided :p . Thanks much Sherlock :D

Steve
PS: I'll read the private message when the server lets me at it.
PPS: I like anything that has 'Free' as part of it, especially boat plans ;)

"Dots de one"...I must retreat a little on that :( ...the Pilgrim 590 was the one that I was looking at, not the Kevalier 800, tho both are interesting. Again...thanks for tracking it/them down.

I have to apologize for not posting, but since the Kavalier 800 is listed on BoatDesign's home page I felt you had probable already seen that one. I try not to state the obvious. Glad you got it tracked down in spite of my help. Free is always good.

Alas, the forums are what I linked to, not the home page. I haven't looked at the home page in months, as everything I want is available from my forums link, or rather the page is actually /net/ . Time constraints have me limited in my web cruising, so I hit my favorite links and then usually hit the hay as a general rule. This morning finishes a 21 day stretch with no day off (I still may have to go in to job #1 tonight, depending if they call or not).

I'm red-faced too, LP and Steve...it's the one page I never thought to search. Old age I guess...

Post the picture that I mentioned in the new guy post. For some reason, the forum tells me I can post pictures but has removed any way to actually DO it. Kinda irritating really. In fact nothing seems to be working on the reply page except that I CAN type in a reply.

A few minutes with the AOL Guru (online) and things are back to normal. Here is the current status of the boat that I told you I am building

Got the picture(s) now Steve. Two questions arise :D Why have you put a bookshelf at the stern; and fastened a car (automobile for my US readers) to the bows...:D
But at least I take back the accusation of 'slacking'....;)
And hey, I visited your page...Some great little designs... very inventive...'Good on yer...' (for Australian readers);)

The tool chest is for ballast and the car (we call them cars too) is to balance out the slight tail heavyness caused by the tool chest;) . Thanks for the compliments tho they are mainly designed to be cheap to build holes in the water  . Notice the rather cramped quarters :(

Hey, Learpilot - what makes you think we're not serious......:D

Though for me, Steve is a 'Fair Dinkum' bloke. Look at the way he helped me out of a hole with Egoist - (and into another). I'm now committed to building the little Polish number)....;)

Hey, Bergalia! I think I'll declare you my guru. No particular reason, other than the fact that you have way more salt in your veins (and whisky) than I'll ever get close to. Truth be known, I spell whisky, R.. U.. M.. Here I go corrupting a thread, but I've run across the phase "Fair Dinkum" before and am curious if you might elaborate on the expression, oh wise and salty one.

Small correction if I may, young Learpilot. Spell rum - RHUM - and you'll be a fair dinkum Scot. A quick scan at the map of my old home and you'll find the Island of Rhum among the Inner Hebrides. Now a National Trust research station and breeding ground for red deer, it used to produce a modest wee whisky callled Rhum Dew (locally known as 'rum do').
The neighbouring islands by the way are - Eigg, and Muck... :(
The elderly Safewalrus will be able to correct me on this (the b*stard always does) but I believe 'Fair Dinkum' - now a beloved Aussie expression - owes its roots to the Cornish miners who settled over here in the 1880's.
To be 'Fair Dinkum' is to be 'straight up - honest - and genuine.' A term never applicable to politicians. (or gurus....):D

But one that applies to salty old Aussies me thinks:D 'Round these parts we call 'em 'straight shooters' or 'good eggs'

Steve
Don't talk to me about rum...I've been known to go thru a gallon (US) in a couple day binge....speaking of which, I'm about due;) .

By gar, Steve, me timbers is well and truly shivered (whatever that means) with all this flattery.
But did you ever try a drop of Pusser's Rum - speciality of the Virgin Islands (British of course - not the US version). I swear it's like a lamb breathing down your throat, or an angel whispering in your ear.
I seem to remember it came with a bonus if you bought the small gallon keg - choice of an enamel plate or mug with nautical flags spelling out 'Pusser's Rum'. I've still got one of the plates tucked away somewhere - the mugs naturally have been stolen by visitors (a genetic hallmark of the Australians...transportation and all that...)
But if you get over those parts (Virgin Islands - and that's a damned misnomer...) do yourself a favour. Pusser's Rum :p :p :p
I've just had a quick web browse - should have done it before. Pusser's have their own web site:
www.pusser's.com/
And I rather believe that's me pictured centre doling out the daily tot to ward off the scurvy... though it's rather an old picture so I might be mistaken...
