I'm new to boating and sailing and have been given an old 12' rowing sailing dingy in need of hull repair/replacement. It appears to be a molded plastic interior in good shape and a molded plastic hull in terrible shape covering a molded foam core. Is it feasible to remove outer hull material and cover the foam core with fiberglass? If not any other suggestions? Thanks

The outer hull and the deck are probably molded from fibreglass (glass-reinforced plastic); only in recent years have plain plastics been stiff enough for boats. So you've probably got a badly deteriorating fibreglass hull. The foam is probably poured in place afterwards. Often the fibreglass resins will dissolve these foams so repairing directly over the foam is not always feasible. It's hard to assess the condition of your craft; any photos?
