Trimmable surface drive system?

Hi there!

I was looking at Harry Schoells patented trimmable surface drive
at www.pulsedrive.com

I have seen another similar design somewhere, but I just can't remember
the name of the other drive system. Does anyone know what I'm looking for?

The ordinary outboard and inboard sterndrives are so boring. A boat with a jet or surface drive system gets immediately more interesting.

The new Mercury jet drive was a very compact propulsion system.
Does anyone have any experience with it?

It was the DBD Marine at www.dbdmarine.com that I searched for.

Would be nice to try it out someday!

I haven't driven either of these surface drives, but from what I've heard they are both rather sensitive to driver inputs and require very careful trimming. Better than sterndrives at the top end but harder to control on a slow plane. As for the Merc jet you mention, it's really not much more than a jet-ski pump with an Optimax powerhead bolted on top. Not particularly efficient but good acceleration.
