ABS offshore racing yachts - wood plating

in section 7.5.1 "single skin carvel construction", I don't understand how the equation is written. what are the vertical lines ? (like in 1.O9|4.2)
i first thought they were fractions, but they are not used anywhere else in the book, and it gives a wrong number.

can someone help me out on this ? i have sent ABS an email but got no response.

I think they are only absolute value brackets (and in this case the inside is always positive so this wont matter).
Don't expect any answers from ABS, the guide is not supported any more.
