Epoxy crystallization

I just received two 5 gallons buckets of Epoxy from a friend who leave out the region. He bought it last winter and I supposed that he keep it outdoor (our winters are very cold).

Yesterday during a big lamination job, the epoxy became to be different. The first 1/3 top was OK but the rest on bucket was full of small crystal.

A small part of this epoxy was in my mixed epoxy on my boat (I hope that I will not have problem with that) and I continue with the top of the second epoxy bucket.

I can't reach my friend and I don't know where he buy this epoxy. I have no name on the bucket but I know that he buy this epoxy from a big industrial dealer and I'm sure that the epoxy is not old.

In the past, I heared some thing about Epoxy crystallization like honey do.

Can I use this Epoxy ?
How can I stir or filter good epoxy ?

You can try to heat it to around 140 degrees F. I think for about 14 hours. If the crystals desolve and do not come back when the resin cools down, it should be okay for your project.

Heat it outside or under a ventilation hood vented to the outside! Might use a ban de euil radiateur for heat.

You should do a test cure and destruction test to see if it okay for you.

Problem is that you already used part of the resin that was crystalized. This means that if the crystals are disolved back in the resulting compound will not be the same as it was from the factory. Like to gamble?

I heated my Epoxy for all night in a boxe with a small electric heater and all crystal disolved.

Its like honey in the fridge - warm it up and its back to normal :D
