Recently a friend of mine brought a new house. After traveling in the woods, we found a huge lake(With some huge fish). As a weekend project we would love to make a 3-5 person wooden boat to fish and relax on. The problem is we don't have a clue on how to get started. A co-worker of mine, does have access to a lumber yard which is a help. Which wood do you recommend? Do you know any websites that has great insight on boatbuilding? We have many power tools along with some help from a "Handyman". Our plan so far, is to make a frame with beams then bent wood onto the frame? Will this even work? As you can see we lost but are willing to shell out some cash and time to have some fun. Any help at all would be great!

www.glen-l.com and www.harborsales.net and www.boatdesigns.com enjoy. Harbor Sales delivers free of charge, Marine plywood, to most lumber yards in N J.

Buy a fiberglass "Bass Buddy" type boat, it comes with two seats and a trolling motor for 300 bucks. You don't really want to go the wooden boat route, and you don't need to.There are too many aluminum Jon boats laying around that can be had for a song. Wooden boats require commitment, serious! Don't waste your time if you just want to catch fish.

You might want to check out Jeff Spira's site , I have built a few of his designs, easy to build and strong , plans are really easy to follow , I even had one boat I built from his plans pictured in Wooden Boat mag. www.spirainternational.com Good luck and have fun......Dan
Can you drive your boat to the fishing hole? If not, look into a canoe you can carry.

Depending on the drive-in, walk in point. If you want to build a light boat look at Airolite (maybe Aerolite) boat site, or for more class at a Cosine Wherry. Could be good winter projects for guys. Otherwise, if fishing not boating is the thing go with a aluminum advice.
