First mate and I took the Sharpie out on Matanzas bay today..beautiful
and sunny, high tide was about 11:30 at the Vilano ramp...the water was
beautiful and green and the wind was NE about 10-15 when we started
motoring into it... headed for the Vilano beach point later it clocked
over to SE...we hit the beach,
set up the rigging and sailed back across the bay a couple times..

big fun...it did become apparent that staying the mast would no doubt
improve performance...the boat is not tender at all and is pretty
swift now...with stays and a spinnaker I could probably get it to
plane in the right conditions :)...it does have some of the notorious "Sharpie slap" when motoring into a good chop but downwind it runs like a scalded dog...this boat loves to surf...

How-To Post Forum Attachments (http://www.boatdesign.net/forums/faq.php?faq=vb_read_and_post#faq_vb_attachment_explain), or the gallery (http://www.boatdesign.net/gallery/) is also a great place to share photos.

Here's a few pics...I hope they load correctly

there is a couple that is the first dip in the water with me motoring away...
I wanted to see the waterline and how it would set and ride in the water before rigging the sails and mast...
also one after the first sail under only main as we further tested...
I hope to have some pics under full sail soon, once and can talk the better half to come out and be the camera op from shore for me...she's not as enthusiastic about boatbuilding as my boy and I...she was about to get me an intervention during this Sharpie's build...said she was a "project boat widow"...:)

can't wait to start the next project...

nope it was for sale...before I was finished building this one I was already itching to start on another design I had made...I know I'm possesed :)

it happened to me like that a few years back when I built that Dory too...

I don't have room for more than the three boats I have now...If I had the space I would build a nice little collection and keep a bunch of them of varying types..but you know...

I've had the boat out several times since these pics were taken on the first dip...on tuesday my first mate and I anchored a bit and wet a line in
St Augs bay, people were tearing up some nice table size whiting...first time to see how the boat would swing and bob on the hook...

we had a good steady 15kts se and for fun made a downwind run under jib
only to see how well it would pull...now if it doesn't sell soon I'm afraid I may be forced to make a spinnaker :)

my wife says she thinks I could get better with a few years of cutting edge therapy :)
