Help please in identifying this design

Hello all,
Only just found this website. Seems like a great site, judging by the forum responses.

I just bought this boat (first one) with the hope of getting my 3 sons interested in sailing. I was told it was a 19' Robert Tucker design. My kids love the paint design (it was painted before the movie), although it's not too traditional. I have found some websites for his designs and I haven't found one that looks like it yet. It is a fairly narrow boat (see second photo), and much to my wife's disgust, likes to lean right over on a reach.

Any help on its design, pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
The Silhouette seems to have more of a curve on the deck, and appears to slope inwards at the transom.

It's very close, but I reckon it's something else. Perhaps an individual boat builder's variation on the design?

I had to take a hard 2nd look, because the hull shape looking from aft is alot like my thunderbird, you have bilge keels which are nice for beaching and trailering. Neither of which are fun for a Thunderbird. But the lines are very similar. Is your mast keel or deck stepped?

Hey, look at that! Twin tiny keels on each side of the underside of the hull (incoherent rambling I know). Cute little boat. Doesn't look like it has much freeboard though (I dunno.) Someone please address this.

The Ballerina is a nice looking boat, close to the Silhouette but I couldn't tell you what the subtle diffences are.

I might try Tucker Designs again to see if they have some information on the early designs, at least to be able to tell them apart.

Another question, aprt from being a good support at low tide, does a bilge keel have any other advantages over a normal keel?

The photos show a modified Caprice by Tucker. You will find a very nice description of voyages made by Shane Acton in the 70s and 80s in this design in his two books "Shrimpy" and "Shrimpy sails Again". [url="http://www.tucker-designs.com/index.html"]

Yes and No.
At this stage a modified Caprice seems the closest match. Therefore, it is by an English Designer (Robert Tucker), but I believe it is a design from the 60s.
If I hear anymore from Tucker designs, I'll let you know.

Just to let everyone know, I'm sure you have all been wondering....

ZeeYachts wins the prize (Please come to Auckland NZ for a free sail in my boat).
It is a Caprice MkII by Robert Tucker. I got a reply from Tony Tucker (Tucker Designs), and I just found a copy of "Shrimpy sails again" by Shane Acton. The pictures in the book show identical hulls, although there are a few design differences.

Hats off to Shane Acton, I'm not even game to leave the sheltered bay (yet).
