Is there any need or reason to put on vinylester gelcoat on a fiberglass boat? Or is polyester gelcoat usually fine? This would be to help keep blistering off of the vessel, mostly on the above water line area. The bottom will be coated with epoxy barrier coat.

Generally speaking the only part of the boat that will blister is below the water line. Run your epoxy barrior coating a couple of inches above the actual water line and that should do just fine. What type of antifouling are you planning to use?
