i was sitting around working on what i think is the hardest part of boat design: the name

so....
how do you think up names for boats?

They just come to you, don't they? The trick is in recognizing them.

Not easy.

The name of my new steel boat to be build (building starts in 3 weeks time) is "Touch Wood"

well i named one boat after an ancient greek explorer but their arnt many of those. my dad named his boat after Gretel from hansel&gretel. for me they dont come to me. i have to spend a lot of time looking for approprit names

My favorite boat name was a sailboat called "Passing Wind". By itself, it's not much of a name but, they had an outboard powered dinghy they towed around called "Passing Gas".

It's generally wise to name a craft after a mother, wife, sister or other family member, Pissing of off the water gods can get you wet.

Saw this yesterday, on a transom at a light near the local ramp, "IMEZRU"

Back in the mid 70's again, (yea ha) epoxying more plywood . . .

chill pill, optional necessity etc etc are some (not by me) powerboat names that stuck.
trouty on this forum was spitting boat names out like water and i would consult him when in need of a good name.

Nicest I have seen for a steel boat was FEOX ,

short for ferris oxide , RUST.

Always remember some of the most innovative of names are a nightmare when using VHF

Tschienque - Lenni Lenape (Delaware) indian for "wildcat"
