I know this is a boat forum, but I can't find anywhere else that talks about composite molding. Anyway, the last episode of Rides Chip Foose and 5-Axis Design were modifying a Caddillac XLR for SEMA. They reshaped the front and rear bumpers with clay and then pulled molds right off the car. They used a white resin and a fiber cloth to make the mold and then a blue resin to cast the new part. I am familiar with making molds and casting parts, I would like an idea of materials they are using. Thanks alot, Ian.

Have you looked at netcomposites.com? There might be an answer there or at least a few links to follow. It sounds as though they could have been using oridinary glass and polyester.

There is a resin system called "Ebalta Polydur", this is a white acrylic resin.
Most info is in German though www.ebalta.de/html/produkt1_k2.html (http://www.ebalta.de/html/produkt1_k2.html)
And another http://www.denaco.com/polydor.htm

Thank you John. From the pictures on the web site shown them doing the process as on the show. I was just curious more than anything. Thanks.

Ian
