Hi Ambas, I guess you're asking for the Master in Yacht Design of the Politecnico di Milano or the Centro Sperimentale di Design di Ancona, because are the only Master in that area as far as I know. Both are Master Degree for architects, engineers and industrial designers, so you'll need to be graduated first. Both are open to international students, but they impart their lessons in Italian. Its easier and cheaper, not faster, to send them emails in English with all your doubts. I know the Politecnica is now doing the selection process for the next year edition, I don't know the one from Ancona.
Hope this help you and I wish you lots of patience.

Hi Semrin and Ambas, finally someone from the Politecnico di Milano called me. His name is Andrea Ratti, he speaks english, so Ambas run to the phone! They are starting the course in these days, around the 21st march, nothing for sure. It's in italian, so I will need to learn it this year to postulate in 2006. I'm thinking now in the Landing School as a possibility, but I don't have any clue about the costs of the course and the living expenses.
Let’s keep in touch, have luck.

I will post an E-mail of Mr Loenardo Vitale from Il Centro Sperimentale di Ancona that might have some useful information...

I need further information to apply to an Italian scholarship that's open
in these days:
Is Centro Sperimentale di Design a public institution? If not, does it have
government recognition?

GOVERNMENT.

THAT HAVE RECOGNITION BY LAW IN ITALY AND EUROPEAN COUNTRIES.
What are the academic dates for this year? starting date, holidays, project

And proceeding with my postulation, what other information will I need

UNIVERSITY DEGREE
THE NEXT SELECTION WILL CLOSE ON MAY 30, 2005
Thank you
I think Milano and Rome must be a little more expensive, but I not sure, and it's true that we are only a few in the world looking for a "Master" studies in this area.
Have luck

Thank you for your information
I wanna ask you some questions
Mr Vitale says
"THE NEXT SELECTION WILL CLOSE ON MAY 30, 2005"
Im a junior of third class, it means i got one more year to be graduated
I think i will be graduated in june 2006 and maybe selections will be closed in may 2006
this program is once in a year, isnt it?
And another question ; in your contry do you have to take an exam for a foreign master program? In my country for any master program of any turkish university,i need to take an exam, but i dont know if it is necessary for a master in a foreign country,i will try to learn this
Andres Palou
04-13-2005, 08:20 PM
I really don't know if the Master in Ancona is only once in a year, because the first information Mr Vitale gave me was that the course was starting in March, so I don't know if it's the same with other dates or is it's a second "ROUND" of masters. In my country in some Postgrades you have to take an exam, for other you just need to accredite you have Universities Studies. I'm from Chile, but it seems it's the same in Italy.

Hi,
The cost of the landing school is approximately $12,000. Living costs would vary depending on the number of students sharing a house or apartment .
Cost of a house would be about $1,300 per month for 2 or 3 bedrooms close to the school, same for an apartment. This is a vacation tourist econonomy area.

I wanted to go to the Landing School, but the problem is that the course isn’t a Master program and the school doesn’t have the Fulbright recognition, so it’s impossible for me to find financial support. Maybe someday I’ll have the enough money to assist to the Design program in the Landing School. Sad but true! :(
Sercan
04-15-2005, 12:54 PM
yea I know Landing shool is not a master program and it is a long program
Since I'm interested in motoryachts and 6 months is not a long period, Ancona is more reasonable for me at the moment, and I think we need to have some relations with Italy, at least we have to learn italian because Italy is the leader in yacht design, buiding and marine industry

I was wondering, if you have to hire someone for your business, would you prefer an architect with a Master in Yacht Design of Politecnico di Milano, di Ancona, or someone with the course of ASPRONADI?
Stavo domandandomi, se dovete assumere qualcuno per il vostro commercio, referireste un architetto con un Master in Yacht Design di Politecnico di Milano, Di Ancona, o qualcuno con il corso di ASPRONADI?

Hello Mater in Yacht design wannebees.
Did you guys already have a look at the University of Southhampton?
They have a course "Yacht and small craft design" in both bachelor and master degree.
by the way, I'm also looking for a Yacht design course in master degree. Something like in Southampton but i'd rather go to New Zealand or the US. But I haven't found anything after searching the net.
bey, René
hi,
I'm fefo and I'm studing eng. of materials.. I would like to go to UK or australia for a master in yacht design.
do you know if there is a master in these states?
hi rhiemstra & fefo,
In Australia and New Zealand you can find only transport design. Only the one in New Zealand -Massey University- is giving education about products that floats or flies under transport design course. All others are giving about motorcylces, cars, bus, trains etc. But the course in Massey is not a master degree programme. It is a bachelor degree programme and has 16.000 New Zealand Dolar price for one year of 4 years -you can finish in 3 years-.
In April, i went to Politechnico in Milano to take information about yacht design master. The book they showed me was about naval engineering tips on sail boats. I didn't go to the school in Roma but i think Istitute europeo in design -Roma- is better with 7 months than Politechnico with 13 months of education also with half price.
I looked nearly every school in the world who can take a master course finished in industrial product design. And find out that if you guys want to take more than "design" like naval engineering, there are 2 schools in England which are the best in the World.
One is New Castle University and the other is Southampton. I talked with a prof in New Castle giving Naval Engineering course and learned that if a designer like me, want to go, he or she has to take a certificate programme which ones content going to be prepared by the prof's of the school to get the base of naval eng. and if!!! it will be enough you will pass to the master course like small craft design which is up to 100mt long ships.

The Maritime College of Tasmania (Australia) offers courses in Naval Architecture - though these tend to concentrate more on engineering larger ships and waterborne structures than small recreational craft
