Can anyone tell me where I can find a document on mounting a motor correctly to avoid cavitation. I have read a few threads where everyone says that the cavitation fin should be level with the lowest point of the hull.

A friend of mine bought this small 4mtr boat with an old 65hp Mercury but it battles to plane because the cavitation fin is about 4 inches above the bottom of the hull. We tried tilting the motor but it only gets worse.

Looks like someone has replaced the motor at some stage and they have cut the transom down by 2inches already - possibly gave up and thats why the boat was sold.

Help!

Every manufactures has the same specifications. The cavitation plate flush with the bottom. In a deep vee bottom about 6mm up is OK.
