There is another posting along these lines that has turned into something more interesting but un clear. I would like some clear answers to these questions please.

I need /want to make an 1974 dufour 35 sail to windward better. I am thinking of adding an inner forestay. I can then put a jib on the existing stay and with the staysail have a similar amount of sail to my existing geneoa.

By putting tracks closer to the centerline I will get a tighter angle.

Will this do what I think / want.

Should I bring the new stay nearly to the top of the mast or should it be parrallell to the forestay.

The loa of the boat is 35 feet, the mast is 13 feet from the forstay do I need a bowspit to make this work.

In the final anyalsis is it really a case of try it and see, or is there a mathematical method to predict the result.

Thanks in advance.
