Penobscot 14 sailboat design?

My friend's dad had a boat built by the guy at Stoney Creek Wooden Boat Shop in Rochester, Michigan. It's a beautiful Penobscot 14. It's truly a beautiful vessel. It look to be well made and gorgeous to look at. Does anyone else have any experience with this design and are there other more preferred designs available?
