View Full Version : Bow Shape, Drag
What shape bow has the least amount of drag, Jon boat style, Model, or ???? How much difference will there be, significant? (Beam of 7 ½ feet, Length of 18 feet, Draft 5 inches, Speed max. of 7 MPH, Chine 90 degree) Looking for minimum drag. Thanks for any and all advice/comments.

From the statement "Jon boat style" I assurme you're just making a small jon boat/box barge. No bow shape will help that length, breadth, depth, and chine shape. Just rake it 30-45 degrees above horizontal like a barge and snub it off to a convient depth for the bow transom. You don't want a large overhang so you can use the ends.
Oops, Make that a flat bottom boat with a few skegs.

Well what is it? A unpowered shanty boat to be towed/pushed? A jon boat to be motored in a protected area? A a high performance sailing scow? A 90 degree chine is a poor hull form and a L/B of 2.5 ain't too hot either!
