As a newbie to the forum, could anyone please indicate if it is advisable to build a houseboat of fibreglass. If not what are the alternatives and is there a forum for houseboat building? Thanks, Alf.

'Glass is the production builder's material of choice, why not for your home with a water view too. I'd recommend foam core, C-flex or solid skin over molds as the first considered methods for construction in this medium.

Ferro cement, steel, aluminum and wood all have made boats only a mother could love as well as some very fine floating condos. All the materials have their pro's and con's about them, some more so then others, some more deserving of the bad rap then others.

I've design a few houseboats over the years, what's your liking?

Hey Mr. Dutch Dick,
Were you born rude or did you have to learn? Help the man!! No maybe not. I'm sure someone else would be much more civil instead of passing out insults. You responded to one of my threads sarcastically without even knowing what I had in mind for the device. Sounds like you believe you could walk on water too.

Dear Alf,
As one newbie to another, I've always had a dream of building some houseboats myself. I don't know what help I could give about fiberglass. Except it's hard to work with and generally requires a mold that could cost as much as the house boat. I've been experimenting with recycled plastic and fillers. The material is is great and one day will probably be the material of choice in pleasure boats. Affordable pontoons can't be found around here. .
Get some old household propane tanks build a steel frame over them. Extra propane tanks could serve as fresh water reserve and sewer holding tanks, or even extra fuel tanks. Then mount a prefabbed mobilie home or large self contained travel trailor to the frame (After some serious water proofing. I'd also spray the propane tanks with that Rhino truck bed protector. Live in it awhile until you can say it would be perfect if these changes were made. Then build the house boat of your dreams. Sincere Luck with the project.

Keith,

No, wasn't born rude and don't intend to become that. Sorry if you don't like my sarcasm, but you said it yourself, we had no clue of what you were going to do with the device. You never explained anything, just thought we'd all understand. I tend to become a little sarcastic then. I apologize for that because I'm on the forum to help. Tried that with Alf too, did you read the other post of Alf and my answer??
Never mind, I'll try to tend to my language/sarcasme even more!

Dear Mr. Dutch Peter,
I would like to apologize for my rude comments. I get a little frustrated sometimes. Forgive me. The head injury changed me some. For instance I no longer have any patience. When (Or if) I ever get a proto type built it'll change everything. Many have doubts but it'll do what I said it would do!! I just don't know how to do the electronic stuff, so I'll learn. Change just comes slowly in our world.

Have a nice day,

Keith
