can anyone identify this engine? there is nothing on the castings and i can see where at one time there was something attached to the exhaust manifold ( a plate blind rivitted on top.

i was begining to wonder if anybody was going to reply . thanks so much for your knowledge,,,,,,,,,,now to further pursue this,,,who were the main users of this engine and can you put an approximate date on it? thanks slow fred,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,stanlj oh one more thing,,what carb would likely have been used?

the carby is still on there, it is an updraft . they all used them years ago. worked okay but you had to be careful of flooding because the fuel would pool in the intake elbow causing a fire hazard. the old man removed the one off his chrysler crown and fitted a down draft stromberg .

They stopped production, on the flathead version, in the 1980s. They made 6 or 7 different size 4 cylinder models, like your picture. Google, continental engine.
