I have recently purchased a used 22 ft. fiberglass center console, semi-v hull, 200 HP Yamaha outboard. The previous owner removed the hydraulic jack plate from the motor before I purchased the boat. The motor does have power trim installed. Hull weight is ~1,900 lbs.

Question: What is the correct height relationship between the keel at the transom and the anti-cavitation plate on the lower unit? I have been told that, when the boat is on plane full throttle, the plate should be at the surface of the water, not below. I have only begun to research this and I've already discovered that there are a lot of mis-conceptions regarding boat rigging.

Hello Fishfinder,

I agree, motor height is not an area well covered by the industry. Have a look at this recent thread called "Outboard Bracket Help" as it will probably answer your questions. http://boatdesign.net/forums/showthread.php?t=3662

by and large long shaft motors regure 20" between the top of the bracket or cut-out and the bottom panel of the boat. extra long shafts require 25"
regular shaft motors are 15...you get the picture.
