It sounds like you are actually asking about what gear lube you should put in the outdrive or sterndrive you have? If so what is the sterndrive make/model (of the outdrive itself)?

WOW, on that relpy!!! I am on this site because the boat was just given to me from my grandfather, and I know very very little about boats. I would like to get it running and just want to put in the correct fluid... So, for any one that isn't so critical, I'm talking about the drivetrain that drives the prop, that is connected to the engine. I do not know what type of gear oil to use, its old and I see no writing or numbers.

Ok ,sometime shock treatment is required !!
The unit will have a name on it , Its a bit like saying i have a car !! one thousand questions later to find out what it is .
Theres lots a diffent types so post a photo , find a service manual .
If you know nothing about boats it would be in your best interest to find out as much as possible real fast !!! go find a boating club , go find a friend with a boat and learn !!, It could save you life when you get on the water !!
Water is completely unforgiving and if you get it wrong it will cost you your life of some one elses .

Oh sure it look easy and yes it is fun as long as you live with in the boundarys of water safety , Like learning to swim first off .

<Mod note: moving this thread to the sterndrive forum.>
If you can possibly post a couple photos it would help give an answer.

Even if someone knows the exact boat, a pic would help be 100% sure because the original could have well been replaced in all those years too. Most likely a standard synthetic "pro" gear lube would be fine as long as it's not an omc electric shift etc... Post a picture so we know what you have.
