It's been a while since we posted on the forums so here goes! :)

Urban Voyage is proud to announce the recent collaboration with the famous German Frers Naval Architecture & Engineering office for their new 62m Panamax Ketch. This is an extraordinary yacht of modern classic style which will make use of the latest building technology.

The Panamax Ketch is designed with a beam length of 10.8m, a draft of 4.2/8m, a displacement of 340 000kg, and a ballast of 70000kg.

what means Panamax in this context?

The rig's a bit short so she fits under the Balboa bridge......roughly 190' from memory.

I always loved Frers designs. I've cruised and raced several of them. They all have in common good speed and seakindliness.

Ok nobody kill me please, just an opinion: the profile is bad. Not the rendering, the designer.
He wanted everything and on the same time lost the essence of what he wanted. It is like a Mozart symphony with a electric guitar orchestra directed by Bruce Springstreen.
The freeboard way too low, the sheer without interrest, you don't see the low point, the bow absurde, not guts, no courage, the counterstern out of proportion and the littles cabines on top, you have to see Mylne or Fife to understand proportion. As for the sail plan, what a disgrace.
This boat is absurde. Washy washy, no strong point beside the stupid Panamax crap. Using this term is realy a pathetic marketing strategy.
Big and expensice is not always beautiful. Frers miss, as usual when he takle the classic, the point. It is the third time for classic, (I don't remember the name of the other, one is in Maine) that Frers show he do not understand proportions.

As for the rendering the great car designer Giugiarro said that rendering was just to trick the reality, to sell the product and only profile can show the distribution of the mass. He was against the three dimensional for good reason.
Are we admiring the boat or the computer rendering?, two very different thing
Wellmer not only you don't have a naval architect, but now you don't have a computer rendering designer. What do you have, an empty office?

Actually she is now sailing and has completed early sea trials and been christened Hetairos. She is a replacement for the 125' cold-molded Hetairos (which I had a hand in designing) built by Abeking and Rasmussen and launched in 1993. That boat is now listed for sale.....asking 13.8m euros.....

It's interesting the new boat switched designers somewhere along the way....(probably right after the preliminary was done). From Frers to Dykstra and Reichel Pugh. Also the auxiliary propulsion system of 4 Volkswagen diesels driving some hydraulic thrusters is different, complex and techy......
