Can anyone recommend a decent bottle of scotch?

There used to be a supplier of "home brew" near Penang circa 1965, and he called the stuff 'rice brandy' - it was as smooth as you could imagine, but he is probably will and truly pickled by now...

I've been trying a few bourbons the past few years, without them there would be no Scotch (reuse of barrels by code).

If interested in American bourbon let me know, I can name a few.:)

The distillment is aged in bourbon barrels and becomes Scotch..

I knew they did that (Bourbon barrels are actually exported to make Scotch) but I didn't know of any code that Scotch has to be aged in Bourbon barrels.
LONDON (AFP) - The last remaining bottle of the world's oldest (Glinfiddich Rare Collection, 1937) single malt whisky left its distillery in Scotland bound for Hong Kong, where it will be the star attraction at an airport shop.
Previous bottles sold direct by the family-owned Glenfiddich Distillery fetched 10,000 pounds (14,500 euros, 19,000 dollars) each, but the price levied by the airport is expected to be higher still.
Just 61 bottles, described as having "chocolate and treacle" flavours, were produced from the single cask and first released in 2001. I'll bet that one'll kick you right in the treacles but no more than;
35307
Which will get you drunk, drunker
They have refined tastes in China
Which explains the old Scotch being sold in an airport - the pic came from engrish.com

So Boston is that a beer with a rum chaser of a rum with a beer chaser?:D:D:D
Boston

ya know I seldom mix the two that way
typically if Im camping I bring rum
beer is just to bulky
and my old girlfriend was a rum fan so I got savvy with who made what and if I liked it
generally its good stuff if you wanna get plastered and still function in the morning

With a reasonably fit constitution, that applies with almost all "rot-gut" - I never had a problem going to work after a heavy night of booze... Now in maturity (old-age) I tend not to push the booze limit, and more appreciate the sober pleasures of life, as often as possible:D:D:D...

Hello Bntii,
Have you tried Schotland :D
No come off it man. SCOTCH ! Good grief. WHy don't you develop some character and switch to vitamin B and C (Brandy & Coke) for a change. The KWV 3 and 5 year is like cooldrink.... one should have a spare at any time as a backup just in case. One never knows what can happen and you need it, which can be anything ;)

Oh nooooo. why dilute a perfectly good drink with toxic waste (otherwise known as "Coke"?), - - at a pinch some water (in the form of ice-blocks) but that addictive (full of caffene) black shit is just NOT ON....

I remember a television program, talking to a scott about wiskey, the reporter asked, "Do you want something in your wiskey", the scott answered, "nah, just another one!".

perhaps this will help.
just recently i did a bourbon taste test-a-thon.
tried every different bourbon i could lay my hands on. ultra expensive, old, cheap everything.
surprisingly,
the very cheapest bourbon won hands down.
the japanese high tech scientific modern cheapest product was fantastically better than the traditional, aged in oak drivel expensive stuff.
much smoother, no crappy tastes at all (removed by science)
i definitively say the cheapest bourbon you can find will absolutely taste the best.
(AND i'm prepared to do the taste test all over again if there's any doubt)
also;
truly, ignore scotch all together.
try
irish whiskey,
(start with tullamore dew in the crock, not bottled.)
i say the same thing about irish whiskey. much better than ANY scotch. (rain water ice only)
try doing an extensive taste test on the irish whiskeys V scotch, and i'm sure you'll agree. i say it's chalk and cheese.
Directions:
Steps for a good, scientific, extended taste test.
1/ become a bachelor
Also;
just FYI,
i did the Pepsi challenge
AND once again, the new! scientifically engineered product leaves coke for dead.
Tips for young players;
you want stuff to nibble on while doing your taste test?
i had to go on stuff called, funny? my memory is all blurry round this time. hmm. oh well, you'll be muchin them suckers like crazy.
(for bleeding stomach ulcers. (the pain was phenomenal!)

I am new to this only signed up yesterday to get a a redeisgn for my rudder. But to the point. Poit Dhubh is Gaelic for Black pot. A very beautifull whisky. An illicit one in days gone by. Suspposedly a fishermans whisky according to my grizzled old Scottish navigator.
Look it up on the net and enjoy
