Wave Wind Power with Piezo at electric boat

I think piezo electric films could be used at producing your electric motor energy from wind and waves at sea. Only you have to do is to cover the entire ocean going one meter boat with this film. I heard you can buy cheap , may be from china.
I got this idea from a high school project which wins the water use competition. It was about producing electric from rain at moonsoon.
It is good project from a Turkish girl took it from 1800 competitors.
My mission is to go to visit my Chilean friends. It is windy , cold way , no sun. I dont think my homemade electric generator withstand against south atlantic waves :)

It is also possible to use piezo crystals to construct electric motors. I have parts from a small piezo fan motor made for computer fan cooling applications many years ago. It used ac current to flex a crystal which made a pair of flexible fan blades move back and forth, much like a fish tail. There were claims that it was more efficient because it did not use electromagnets (zero wiring loss). The fish tail design might be adapted to work in water. If only it were that simple. You need to look at the response of piezo film and compare it to the frequency of the waves. I think you'll find the piezo film reacts very well to high-frequency input, but very poorly to the wave frequencies, especially for a 1m boat. A small boat is going to move with the waves, and so there will be less difference in pressure from the waves acting on the surface.

For a boat that size, you would probably do better to have a heavy mass inside that would provide power as it acted on its restraints. The springs that center the mass could be tuned so the mass will resonate at the frequency of the waves from which you wish to extract the energy, and the mass could drive the boat through mechanical means as it moved back and forth.

As pointed out above, hydrofoils are a better way to extract energy from the waves. But sail power is still probably your best bet, especially since wind and waves tend to come together.
