I'd like to build a 7m ski/cruising boat, and I've noticed that I'm terribly picky.

I want a wooden runabout/classic style boat with a stern-drive engine. I've found a boat builder that has plans that are similar, but they're for a fiberglass or aluminum hull. He has offered to rework the plans to fit my request.

He says that his plans will come with:
The construction plans would include the approx. following detailed drawings;
- General arrangement (plan & profile)
- Hull lines & hydrostatics
- Hull offsets, gunwale offsets

- Hull & deck structure
- Structural sections & details
- Engine setup & details
- Windscreen details
- Fuel tank details

Is this all I need? or should I make sure it has _______.

All suggestions and help are appreciated!
Regards,
Hue Jass

If you're terribly picky, you'll probably need a semi custom or full custom set of plans. Unless you have considerable experience with this builder or he is a long established builder with the reputation to support it, I would be quite hesitant about having him convert a GRP or aluminum plan to wood.

As far as plan set detail, frankly it shouldn't concern you, unless you are building it. By this I mean plans are only as good as the crew following them. I have yards that have done designs of mine previously. Some I just need to supply a set of lines, maybe some profiles and a scantling list. Others I have to wet nurse through the process, which requires extensive and detailed plan sets.

In this same vain, I recently built one of my designs and other then some general measurements, I didn't have any plans. I sort of knew what I wanted and "winged" it.
