I'm thinking about giving the glen-l squirt a shot as my first wood boat. Has anyone built one of these? About how much did it cost in materials?

I have built several Glen L designs. I have never heard
a bad word about Glen L.

As to the cost, it depends on the area where you live and
how exotic you want the boat.

I use common store lumber and exterior ply. In my area
marine ply is ten to fifteen times the cost of standard ply.

You can cut corners, dig around, and find bargains. Or
you can just buy the best and not worry about it. It all
comes down to how you want to do it.

My 12' sail, row boat is made from Lowes cedar, ply
and galvanized screws, plastic chicken house curtian
material sail, Harbor Freight trailer, blemished battery.
I did a bit of dumpster diving at the local lumber mill
for some oak scraps and used Wal Mart porch and floor
paint and ended up spending $904.

Glen L's site has a very complete material list for the
boat you are looking at, just check out the local suppliers.

Thanks for posting the photos BHOFM, you're an inspiration (and a craftsman as well).

They have a very supportive web forum if you wish more targetted information.

You can also scan through their main site and it also has actual completed boats in the plan section of each boat type.

I saw the completed boats on their site theres a lot! I haven't checked out their forum.

BHOFM: the sail boat looks great I never would have guessed you got anything dumpster diving!

I was thinking I'd use exterior ply for the hull and do the top in some kind of nicer stained wood for the classic wood boat look.
