I have a 2004 Yamaha 115 HP prop engine. I am considering converting it to a jet drive. Does anyone know how much trouble it is, what are the pros and cons of doing it, and what the approximate costs might be to do it. Thanks a lot.

The switch is easy, the cost will be around $2,000.00 for the pump.

Pros... no prop to ding, safer, shallow water is no problem.

Cons... 30+% loss of power, fuel consumption goes up by the same amount or more, need to change the transom height (taller), it will suck up anything in the water (weeds, a leaf, rocks, sand) and can become plugged up.

I run shallow rocky rivers and there’s no way to get around without a jet pump, but if I didn’t need one, I’d run a prop all the time.
