Im building a scale model sailboat for a school project. What is a good place to buy scale blocks and cleats and things of that nature. I have found sources for more vintage looking stuff but nothing of more current design.

check rcgroups.com
there is alot of resources on the site and a search will help.
http://www.rcgroups.com/sailboats-59/?
also check:
http://www.modelyacht.org/links.html
on my older computer I had plenty of bookmarks for rigging hardware etc. but I have no access to them right now.
you can check the report on my enever finished project too - might give some pointers

(I would do it a little differently tho)

Not sure what scale yet. It depends on what scale hardware I can find. The boat I am designing is 16 to 18 feet. I would like the model to be anywhere from 2 to 3 feet. Thanks for the websites, ill be checking those out.

Also is there such a thing as a scale roller furling system?

seriously doubt that there is functional systems - the sails usually are pretty rigid material to begin with - typically more "paper" or plastic film like. It is hard to get so thin fabric that it would furl nicely in a scale model.
Would you really want a roller furling for 17' boat?
btw. is the idea to make functional rc model or just display model?

The idea is to make an accurate display model. Ideally it would be fully functional to better demonstrate the boat. More than likely the people I will be presenting this project to have no idea about sailboats or even boats for that matter. I just thought it would be fun to make it RC so that I could have a fun toy after this project is done and over, but Ive decided to scratch that idea anyway because of money/time constraints. Looks like I will be having some fun machining my own furling system.

sounds like fun
Otherwise the scale model stuff on rcgroups will probably be helpful for the hull making - using balsa is easier than it looks - not sure how experienced you are with model making.
did you find the blocks?

At 16 to 18 feet full size, you are going to find it quicker to build the real thing!
I have just finished a 1:10 scale of a 28 footer, and, depending on your building method, has taken about as long as a small boat.
Balsa wood isnt nearly as easy to use in a small model as I hoped. It dosent take compound curves well at all. Modellers plywood or very thin Formica would a much better bet.
Unless you have access to a metal lathe, tiny bits of metal will be a real problem.
