Hello to all... I'm looking at building a 3 point hydroplane as a hobby. I have found the plans for 3 different types or just different plans. They're called the Hasty Hydro (http://www.muskokaseaflea.ca/staticw...d=60&Itemid=41) , Scat Cat - (http://www.svensons.com/boat/?p=HydroPlanes/ScatCat) , and the Saucy Shingle - (http://www.popularmechanics.com/outd...g/1277141.html). Has anybody built one of these? About how much does it cost? Time? What would be the expense and time difference between the hasty hydro, that just calls for a plywood sheet and build up from that and the other two that require the framing with plywood covering it? I plan on powering it with a '96 8hp Johnson that I already have as a dinghy motor. This is just supposed to be a low budget first build hobby b/c I've always been interested in building boats and I just went to a APBA race where they had little pickleforcks, so I found these free plans, and I'm hoping to get a chance to build one but money's a little tight. So I'm not looking to spend to much money. I don't plan on fiberglassing the whole thing, just the edges is what the plans call for with some fiberglass tape and resin. I plan on using Marine grade AB plywood. Whats the cheapest way to seal the plywood. Just paint a resin over it without mat or cloth or will it be alright to just use on the lake once in a while without sealing it? Does anyone have some finished pics that aren't from 1960's B&W or have any insight on which would be better from the three or even plans I haven't found that are cool. The plans call for Fir, but that's kinda hard to come by here and really expensive if I could order it, so what would be another good strength to weight ratio wood to use for this that is cheap?
