Does anyone have any experience with, or photos of, this 15 metre design?

I'm building a Colvin steel dory for long range coastal cruising. With a 20 hp diesel burning 1/2 gal per hr @ 6 knots we can cruise from Maine to Florida and back for about $700. This boat makes a lot of sense for someone on a budget like myself. All the steelwork is complete, the engine is in and the superstructure in ply is complete. Hope to launch by end of July. Mr. Colvin is very helpful in advising me as I am not a boatbuilder. Have several pics I can email if your'e interested. Dave

Dave-
Some pics would be fantastic. I've been holding onto the study plans that Thomas sent me for a couple of years, and am planning on getting started towards the end of this year. Some questions: did you install the 40hp Bukh that he recommends, or actually a 20hp model; did you frame it per the plans laterally, or modify with longitudinals; I was considering an aluminum superstructure instead of the ply, but what are your thoughts on the this? Thank you. Sonny

I would really like to see some photo's of your build.
I have 8 sets of various Saint Pierre plans and have corresponded a bit with Mr. Colvin. Leaning toward a 33 ft Colvin or 28 ft McNaughton.
If you can handle 6-7kts you can't beat a power dory with a stick, nothing cheaper or more efficient out there. What power plant did you use? I've been eyeballing an air cooled Dutz.

Thanks

Re: Steel dory. Colvin is a great guy to work with. I installed a 20hp 3 cylinder Beta diesel with a 3-1 gear turning a 17-13 screw. The boat is still in the shop so it's difficult to get good pictures. We're launching August 1. I'll send you pictures when I get boat out of shop. By middle of August we'll have some info on how she runs, which I can forward to you. Dave
