Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale;
A tale of a fateful trip;
That started from this tiny port, aboard this tiny ship.... :P

Just a few from my Ipod collection that we listen to on the boat:

Dock of the Bay - Otis Redding
Carry on my Wayward Son - Kansas
Smoke on the Water - Deep Purple
Crew Slut - Frank Zappa
End of the World - Great Big Sea
The Unforgiven III - Metallica (for max enjoyment play at full volume)
Shanghai'd in Shanghai - Nazareth
Take me to the Kaptain - Prism
Force 10 - Rush
Barratt's Privateers - Stan Rogers
Northwest Passage - Stan Rogers
Eye of the Hurricane - The Alarm

There's a ton of others. Think last count was over 3000 tunes on the IjjitPod.

"The Buccaneer" - sung by McCulley's Workshop  **** Fanie, you should have known the song by this great SA band....

And to refresh your memory Fanie, and Butch's and Manie's, here are the words:D

16 men on a dead man's chest,
will I see you tomorrow,
16 men and I'll see the rest,
I won't beg steal or borrow,
I won't beg steal or borrow

Well we sailed into the beach
And we were just out of reach
Of the forty-second squadron
When I heard the captain screech

Get down on the sand
Don't you waste no time
'Cause I gotta get that gold
Inside for (something) tonight

And the Buccaneer said I'll see you dead
I'll see you swingin' from the yard arm
The buccaneer sang in a nasal twang
There's enough gold here to start on
There's enough gold to get high on

Now the captain he'd been told
where they hid away the gold
and he told us to go dig it up
so he get could it sold
But somebody had taken it
Before his very eyes
And he turned around and looked at me
Much to my surprise

And the Buccaneer said I'll see you dead
I'll see you swingin' from the yard arm
The buccaneer sang in a nasal twang
There's enough gold here to start on
There's enough gold to get high on

save me, whoa oh oh, saaave me,
save me from,
the buccaneer

save me, whoa oh oh, saaave me,
save me from,
the buccaneer

well I had to get away
so I slammed into the bay
and I could hear him coming up
and I could hear him say
when I get hold of you,
you won't even cry,
cos I'll string you from the yardarm,
and all you'll do is die

well they got me on the deck,
put the rope around my neck
and I could feel the sweat break out
and I could feel it stick
but the royal navy frigate came
and rescued me at last
she put one across and bow,
and fired one into the mast

And the Buccaneer said I'll see you dead
I'll see you swingin' from the yard arm
The buccaneer sang in a nasal twang
There's enough gold here to start on
There's enough gold to get high on

And the Buccaneer said I'll see you dead
I'll see you swingin' from the yard arm
The buccaneer sang in a nasal twang
There's enough gold here to start on
There's enough gold to get high on

And the Buccaneer said I'll see you dead
I'll see you swingin' from the yard arm
The buccaneer sang in a nasal twang
There's enough gold here to start on
There's enough gold to get high on

My Father was the keeper of the Eddystone light,
e' married a Mermaid one fine night.

I like the Brothers Four version of that but nearly every broken down singer has recorded it.

Shangai'd by Burl Ives.

"Sailing" - what is that gravelly voiced "stones era" pommy singer (Rod Stewart)QUOTE]

Nobody ever realises that Rod Stewart regurgitated the song that was originally written and performed by the Sutherland brothers. He did it very well as he also did with "People get ready" by Curtis Mayfield.
I would add a vote for Sloop John B and an honourable mention for Salty Dog.
