View Full Version : Have anyone of you designed your own wave tank?

I have this dream of developing my own "hobby" wave tank, so I can test design of my models.

Design:

1. Sirkulating water in a <===> shaped design. A propeller on the side (30-40hp). Length of one side: 6-10 meter.

2. A fan with a 30-40hp engine blows air through a tunnel, in that way I can get waterstream and aerodynamic observations.

3. A window on one side so I can see the water hitting the model + air from the fan.

4. A wave making mecanism.

Anyone know of similar projects/design?

Mythbusters made one realy fast and it worked quite good :)

hmmm....wavemaking mechanixm = metal plate on hydraulic/pneumatic push rods? it works for the theme parks! (that or they sometimes fill tanks with water & pressurized air, but that seems very inefficient to me.

Yeah or maybe a mechanism that elevates some of the bottom.

Since I want the water to sirculate in a "ring" tank, that metal plate with push rods would give waves towards the wall, not into the stream.

a wave tank IS a theme park!:D
Works as well but much cheaper with eccentric tappet on e- motor:idea:

and Hondean go here: http://www.hsva.de/
then "test Facilities" and you have a clou.
