I'm getting ready to replace the Transom Seal Boot on my 84 OMC Stringer 800 outdrive. The manuels I've read do not mention the foam transom seal tape shown on many websites. What is the best way to seal the transom and again at the drive itself?
Thanks in advance for your help.

I have to admit it has been a very long time since I worked on one of those, I am going to again soon however. My dad and I changed one on his boat a long time ago. The boot attached to the hull with a bunch of screws. I do not remember if any sealant was used, I do remember the boot attachet to the gimbal housing with a huge hose clamp. That was all. I remember thinking there was more to it, but that was all.

The original boot was attached without any sealant, but it can do no harm to use some now; the transom may not be as flat as it was in '84. There is an excellent marine sealant for this purpose, called bellows adhesive (Mercruiser).
