Hi all,
I am just starting to plan my new power installtion for my boat. I have started by selecting the battery for the starter and things what I do need is information on what needs to be connected to the starter battery. There will be the starting circuit and most likely a 24v system so 2 more large batts around 200ah each

So Far :-
Starting Batt (X-Cell 12V 75ah AGM 750cca)
on this circuit will be
- Starter Motor
- Eng Instruments approx 6A
- Bilge Pump 3.2A 5A fuse
- Bilge Blower 2.7A 3A fuse
- Gas detector 2A fuse
Is anything else required on this circuit.

The battery banks will be connected to the alt by the blueseas 120A automatic charging relay with the Dual circuit battery switch all Blue seas.
Thats all i have so far.
Does anyone have experience in designing there own system and does this sound sufficient so far. I have been reading the Marine Electrcial Electronics Bible by John C Payne.

Any thoughts help is appreciated

Steve

Hey Steve

That's pretty much got it right. I'd move the bilge pump to your house bank as it's probably much larger in capacity than your starting battery. My personal preference is to keep only the absolute essentials to start the boat on the starting battery. A bilge pump isn't essential to starting the boat. I do use two bilge pumps, a small pump running off the house bank that pretty much handles all the pumping duties on my boat and a large de-watering pump with a solid state automatic switch that runs off the house bank. This second pump sits a bit higher in the bilge than the first and will kick in if the first one fails.

There's a thread on here somewhere with my preliminary electrical design for our trawler but I can't put my finger on it and there's the Electrical Wiki too.

I've switched out a battery isolator this year in favor of the BlueSea ACR, good choice and it works exactly as advertised.

Quick one what software did you use to draw up your wiring diagram, I am just using a pen and paper at the moment.
Cheers

Microsoft Visio Professional. I've also used Autocad on occasion.

There are a lot of them in the Visio templates, I think I got the Autocad ones form some engineering drawings I have for the 47' MLB's. Other than that I drew the rest. The electrical panel I had to redraw from scratch. Some mfgrs offer drawings of their equipment that can be imported or redrawn.
