i currently have a 1991 ranger bass boat with a Johnson gt 150 on it. i am thinking about changing the motor out with a Yamaha 150 pro v that is in incredible shape can anybody tell me what are some of things i need to watch out for if i do this as far as transom stability, changing controls, and stuff like that. also another thing is that i have hydraulic steering on my boat but the Yamaha does not. any advice will be greatly appreciated.
If the weights are about the same there should be no stability issues. Same HP so the transom should be strong enough to support it. As far as controls, your throttle/gears are probably run by teleflex cables, may just have to change end fittings, they are usually pretty standard so it should not be hard. The hyd steering should be external to the engine, again may need to change the fittings to attach to the new motor.

I think KenJ has covered most of it..... same power and probably similar weight, so the boat should be OK with it. Throttle, shifter and steering connections will probably need to be changed to be compatible with the Yamaha, but the controls and cables/hydraulics themselves should be OK.
