Simple question.....? with most combination chart plotter/radars...can you NOT have the radome active when you are using the head unit..ie when you are using the unit as a chart plotter/ fish finder only? What brand do you know of ..what units. In particular Garmin and Koden. I have a very small window to find the anwser....A FEW HOURS.

Not sure about down under, but US Coast Guard regs state that if your vessel is equiped with radar it must be on at all times whilst under way.
So in other words if you got it, use it!

Hey Redtech, I'm sure their are lots of folks whom only use in limited visablity, I was stating the reg, for whatever it's worth.
Some, I'm sure would like to know what is expected of them from our friends in blue.
Wasn't trying to ruffle any feathers.

grady, i myself don't want to ruffle feathers. my statement comes more from feeling over regulated by government and laws. i'm in california so there are a lot of needless regulations. for me to be told if you have radar you have to use it is like telling everyone out there if you have gps you have to use it even if just driving to work and back.
to many distractions on the helm and not enough looking were you're going
as far as the boy's in blue i give them a lot credit for the work they do and support them when i can
good to here from you on this maybe it's time i renewed my license and got up-dated on the regulations
