O1 has surfaced again and it has got me to thinking. (now we’re all in for it ;) ) First I want to correct something I said in an earlier post, that if you read the O1 thread you will learn something about boat design. That’s not true. What you will learn is all the problems a design group runs into and that there is a lot more to a boat than just a hull.
I think the post from Tad applies here, http://www.boatdesign.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2319 , the lack of strong leadership and focus resulted in a less than spectacular and still unfinished design.
I urge all who haven’t, to read the whole thread. It was worked on for over a year and there is information in there that many will benefit from. I’m proud to have been involved with it, but maybe now it is time to start something new.

What money.....?
Old saying, for those who have yet to hear it:-
"If you want to make a small fortune in Yacht Design, start with a big one and retire early."
I had neither the big one to start with, nor the sense to retire. But I love what I do for a living, and the family is happy (ish) with that.
Steve
In many cases I reading with large interest your posts, Steve.
Thanks for:
"If you want to make a small fortune in Yacht Design, start with a big one and retire early."
It's very important really.

Gary,
I think it would be a shame, if at the end of all this we didn't finish up with a completed design. Having said that, very few seem interested in continuing with the process....:(
I intend to refine the hull model that I posted some time ago. When it's done, I'll put it up for comment - the interest it generates (or lack thereof) might determine O-1's future....

ok, no more morbid jokes, no envellopes to mail eighter ;) still i make a point on the $. i've got my hands full (and pockets emty'd) on 27 feet now and it aint even the hull/boat itself, but i love it.
not so long ago i checked on a price for GRP over foam for the glen-L 35'-3" by 13'-8" and 18,000 lbs. sea angler, local glas and foam alone was: $/E 5000, not much actually but dont forget the "rest" is multitudes of this amount! hope this than is a serious contribution by giving some idea of cost. for me it does count!
