Why don't they make Cigarette style boats out of aluminum? Wouldn't they be lighter and stronger?

Wouldn't necessarily be stronger or lighter. Would be less friendly to the salt water enviornment and more expensive. (IMHO)

If you stretched out one of those high powered jet boats they thrash up the rivers and put a lot of v in the hull you'd be close!:)

The first ones were UK Cougar Cats in the 40'+ range.
The impacts showed as dents in the skin.

There is a guy in Grant's Pass OR. building a 40' V hull currently, looks like a Fountain.

There are many yachts built from AL. when properly barrier coated they last a very long time...

you see there is another popular misconception
they need no coatingat all, I have built alloy for 30 years, there is a yacht Moreg Myor, built uk 1957, I saw her in the Caribbean 5 years ago, like new.
thre is a flying boat, catalina lying 200 foot down in Vanuuatu, ww2, perfectly intact
Alloy is forever IF you do not mix metals
Alloy is cheaper to build than steel(speed of build) painting etc, far far cheaper than solid timber
BUT in high speed craft, the engineering has to be spot on
