I'm getting ready to put a boat with a used Hamilton jet in the water for the first time - for the thrust bearing the manual says to use, “Marine Extreme Pressure Grease…Shell Alvania R2 or similar”. I’ve looked locally and online but don’t seem to be able to find it – can anyone suggest a grease that is common and will work OK? The local auto parts store tells me that LubriMatic Moly EP Grease would be suitable – any comments?
Also, will the bearing overflow when full of grease? I thought someone had told me there was a risk in putting in too much grease at this site……..
any advice, comments or references would be appreciated. thanks.

Texclad is a super high pressure grease. It contains graphite. Check that out for use in ball and roller bearings (speed matters too--- the grease I'm talking about is like tar and I'm asssuming it protects well but adds some resistance too).

thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately, the manual warns against using any grease with graphite so I'll need to find another alternative. thanks again.

Contact the Hamilton People in Christchurch NZ to be sure. I had the same question for my 191 Jet. Ordinary marine quality grease was OK.

No no, not "unfortunately" they know exactly what they recommend! Stay away with any Graphite from every boat! In the metallurgical hierarchy (galvanic series) Graphit is noble to almost everything. If you apply a grease with that stuff your jetdrive will sacrifice itself in a very short time!

Spheerol L-EP 2
TEXACO Regal AFB 2
TEXACO Premium RB
MOBIL Mobilux EP 2
My book lists all the above as 'equivalent' to Alvania R2.
Now, whether they're all suitable I don't know. But it's more options to google.
