We normally grind the color gelcoat off, to a uniform line, sometimes formed by taping a straight edge for this job, and then wipe it down with acetone, to clean it good. This will allow for less work in the finish part of the job. We also place a fillet of thickened resin along the joint, made up with 404 thickening agent, from West System. We have also layed it up with the 403 fibers, if you plan on glassing it while the resin is either in the green stage or just as the fillet is firming up. When Robbins, on the bay, and many other fiberglass builders were selling the bare hulls, we would build the cabins from plywood and glass, and installed them this way, at the washboards. Find you some 10 0r 12 ox biaxall for the job, and cover it with the finish tape for the ease of finish work. Layer it while the biaxall is wet.
