Hello everyone, im a naval student in the last year of uni and im working on my final proyect, im designing a 8,5m LOA motor made of prfv.
and ive got this on the stadistic study:
Loa 8,5m Lwl 7,5 B 3m T 0.7m Displacement 8,5 tons.
Id like to know if anyone here can help me with the maxsurf design, ive tried a design but my displacement is twice the required.
thanks to everyone there!
twice the displacement?, ok, not sure here....but you are saying that maxsurf gives you a displacement twice of what the model is supposed to be? (maybe need to change the units or position of the waterline when running your hydrostatics)
Or is a case of your lines need to be adjusted to meet the required displacement?

If you send me a copy of your Maxsurf design file I'll have a look and see if I can spot any problems. Email is andym at formsys dot com

Hello mr andrew,
i sent u some emails about he yacht design u were lookign at, u said u were gonna send the design some time ago, i wanted to know if u sent it or something, i guess my mails are going to ur junk mail like that one.

Regarding your design, it looks great, I dont see any problems with it. It is very deep in the water, normally I would not expect to see a hard chine hull such as this immersed so deeply at rest, so I think you need to look at whether your draft figure is correct. The displacement figure I get is 6.694 Tonnes, is 8.5 T what you were getting from the hydrostatics calculation or is it your required displacement?
I also note that you are using linear surfaces transversely, you may wish to consider whether you want to add flare in the topsides forward by adding another row of control points to the topsides surface.
Finally, the one change i would make to the design is to make sure that the longitudinal co-ordinates of the transom are all zero, this makes it easier for Maxsurf to put a section at the transom for hydrostatics purposes. Also, you should set your frame of reference so that the forward perpendicular is where the stem crosses the forward waterline.

Andrew
